Manager Parks

Your new role

 

We are seeking a dynamic Parks Manager to lead our team and ensure the highest standards of service and safety across our parks and open spaces. You will provide strategic leadership, guiding and supporting employees to complete work safely and efficiently.

You will offer specialist advice to senior management, assist in decision-making, and stay informed on Parks Delivery while building strong relationships with community representatives and acting as a liaison between Councillors and operations.

Key responsibilities of the role will include overseeing the Section's operations through strategic planning and initiatives, fostering a culture of accountability and excellent customer relations.

Additionally, you will lead major projects to enhance parks and facilities, manage policies and risks, and promote business development whilst meeting community expectations and maintaining exceptional service standards for the Region’s Parks and Open Spaces, the Rockhampton Botanic Gardens, the Rockhampton Zoo, and various sports and recreation facilities.

Ensuring effective financial management, you will maximise returns to Council and continuously improve work practices whilst promoting Council’s vision and strategic goals.

This position requires the completion of a satisfactory Criminal History Check - Police Certificate (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).

What we are looking for

  • Democratic and inclusive manager with logical thinking and technical knowledge to motivate others to achieve Council goals.
  • Familiar with all aspects of parks operations.
  • Proven track record in managing significant projects to completion within budget and required time frames.
  • Strong financial analysis and business acumen to develop strategic initiatives that maximise financial resources and community outcomes.
  • Familiar with Local Government operations and legislation, including relevant reporting requirements.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Experience in developing and implementing maintenance and improvement programs for Council’s assets.

Application Criteria

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Business Management, Asset Management or Horticulture (or related discipline) and substantial experience (minimum of 5 years) in a similar leadership role.
  • Demonstrated engaged leadership skills with the ability to drive positive organisational and cultural change management across multi-faceted teams that strives to deliver a service that exceeds community expectations.
  • Proven experience in managing parks or horticultural functions, ensuring the delivery of high-quality parks, botanic gardens, streetscapes, CBD areas, sports fields, recreation facilities, and zoos, while consistently meeting and exceeding community standards and expectations.
  • Demonstrated exceptional project management skills, with a proven track record of successfully overseeing and completing projects within budget and established time frames.
  • High-level interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, Councillors, community groups, and external stakeholders.
