Rockhampton Regional Council is seeking a dynamic and strategic General Manager to lead our Communities and Lifestyle portfolio, a role that shapes the future of our region and enhances the lives of our residents.

 

How You’ll make an Impact

 

As General Manager Communities and Lifestyle, you will:

 

  • Lead strategic planning and service delivery across community partnerships, recreation, culture, and regulatory services
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement aligned with Council’s Corporate Plan
  • Represent Council in regional partnerships and stakeholder forums
  • Coordinate disaster recovery efforts and oversee Council’s volunteer program
  • Inspire a high-performing team and foster a culture of accountability and customer focus 

You will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the Rockhampton Region. This executive leadership position oversees a diverse and high-impact portfolio including Growth and Community Partnerships, Open Space and Recreation, Planning and Regulatory Services, and Communities and Culture.

 

This is a unique opportunity to lead with purpose, influence regional transformation, and deliver outcomes that matter to the people of Rockhampton.

 

This position requires the completion of a satisfactory Criminal History Check - Police Certificate (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).

1.    Strategic Leadership and GovernanceDemonstrate your ability to lead a multi-disciplinary department at an executive level, including strategic planning, policy development, and alignment with organisational priorities. Provide examples of how you have contributed to whole of organisation governance and performance.

2.    Operational Management and Service Delivery

Outline your experience in managing complex operations, including planning, regulatory services, recreation, and cultural programs. Highlight your ability to deliver fiscally sound business plans, meet performance objectives, and lead continuous improvement initiatives.

3.    Stakeholder Engagement and Community Development

Describe your approach to engaging with Councillors, community groups, and external stakeholders. Provide examples of how you have influenced outcomes, built trust, and delivered services that reflect community needs and expectations.

4.    Leadership Capability and Cultural Alignment

Demonstrate how your leadership style aligns with Council’s Leadership Capability Framework, including building trust, enabling change, delivering results, and fostering personal growth. Provide examples of how you have led organisational change and supported professional development.

5.    Knowledge of Local Government and Legislative Frameworks

Provide evidence of your understanding of local government operations, relevant legislation, and regulatory environments. Highlight how this knowledge has informed your decision-making and strategic direction.
