- $72,271 per annum (LGIA Stream B Level 4 + Site Allowance) + Superannuation

Your new role
Join our Open Spaces and Recreation team and play a key role in maintaining and shaping the future of Rockhampton’s Botanic and Kershaw Gardens – the region’s premier green spaces.
In this hands-on horticultural role, you’ll help create and maintain stunning landscapes, vibrant gardens, and healthy tree collections that delight the community and visitors alike.
Your day-to-day will include planting, pruning, mowing, irrigation upkeep, and pest and disease control. You’ll prepare open spaces for community events and rejuvenate gardens to showcase their best, while operating and maintaining a range of horticultural equipment. In addition, you’ll contribute to garden refurbishment projects and ensure our parks remain safe, welcoming, and visually outstanding.

This position requires the completion of a satisfactory Criminal History Check - Police Certificate (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).
What we are looking for
- Demonstrated experience in horticulture and open space maintenance, ideally in large public parks or gardens.
- Ability to safely operate and maintain horticultural machinery and equipment, including mowers, brush cutters, chainsaws, and irrigation systems.
- Knowledge of plant care, pruning techniques, pest and disease control, and garden rejuvenation practices.
- A motivated self-starter with a passion to deliver high standard quality horticulture works.
- Someone who enjoys and is capable of physical and outdoor work.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to carry out your duties in a safe manner and assist in building a professional and positive safety culture.

Application Criteria
- Certificate II or III in Horticulture or equivalent and/or substantial work experience within a horticultural environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of safe work practices, including manual handling techniques and equipment operation.
- A strong team player that demonstrates positive attitude and can work independently.
