  • Monday to Friday, 76 hours per fortnight, 9 day fortnight
  • Pro Rata amount of $72,271 per annum ($36.57 / Hour) + Overtime (LGIA Stream B Level 4 + Site Allowance) + Superannuation

Your new role

Are you passionate about maintaining and enhancing green spaces? Rockhampton Regional Council is seeking a dedicated Gardener to join our Parks Operations teams.

In these roles, you will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of parks, open spaces, streetscapes, and sporting fields across the Rockhampton region. Your day-to-day duties will include mowing, whipper snipping, irrigation, tree and shrub planting, and the application of herbicides to ensure our community spaces are well-maintained and visually appealing. You will also conduct inspections to identify and address hazards, assist in park facility upkeep, and contribute to landscaping and garden rejuvenation projects.

These are hands-on roles that require the ability to operate horticultural machinery such as zero-turn mowers, chainsaws, and brush cutters. You'll also play a key part in ensuring safety standards are upheld, performing routine equipment maintenance, and supporting community events by preparing and enhancing outdoor spaces.

If you enjoy working outdoors, take pride in creating well-presented public spaces, and have experience in horticulture, arboriculture, or parks maintenance, these roles are perfect for you!

This position requires the completion of a satisfactory Criminal History Check - Police Certificate (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).

 

What we are looking for

  • Knowledge and experience in horticulture and open space maintenance in public parks or gardens environment.
  • Ability to safely operate and maintain small machinery including but not limited to tractors, mowers, brush cutters, chainsaws, blowers and other plant.
  • A motivated, proactive, self-starter with a passion to deliver quality horticulture works.
  • Someone who enjoys and is capable of physical and outdoor work.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

  • Demonstrated work experience within a similar horticultural environment and passion to deliver quality work.
  • Knowledge and experience with irrigation, safe operation of zero turn mowers, whipper snippers, blowers and adhering to WHS procedures.
