Senior IT Network Infrastructure Officer

  • Permanent / Full Time
  • Monday to Friday, 72.5 hours per fortnight, 9 day fortnight
  • $109,433 $116,784 per annum (LGIA Stream A Level 6) + Superannuation
  • Location – Rockhampton 

Your new role

Are you an experienced IT professional with a passion for network and security infrastructure? Do you thrive in dynamic environments and enjoy leading technical projects that make a real impact?

An exciting opportunity has become available for a motivated and skilled individual to join Council’s Information Systems Unit. This role is responsible for managing and maintaining Council’s technology infrastructure, with a strong focus on network and security environments. You’ll provide expert advice, lead  projects, and ensure our systems are secure, stable, and future-ready.

An ongoing condition of employment for this position is that the employee must meet the requirements necessary to possess an Aviation Security Identity Card (ASIC). To qualify for an ASIC, applicants must periodically submit to Police background, politically motivated violence and Australian citizenship checks (checks are arranged by Council).

What we are looking for

  • Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology or a related discipline, and/or extensive experience in IT infrastructure management.
  • Proven experience in the design, administration and support of data networks, including LAN/WAN environments and IP/cloud telephony.
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks and technologies, including firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS), virtual private networks (VPNs), and their application within SCADA and CCTV environments.
  • Proven ability to lead and deliver technical projects on time, within budget, and to high standards, while collaborating effectively with internal teams and external vendors.
  • Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving through strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused mindset.

Application Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience in the design, administration and support of data networks, security and network devices.
  • Proven knowledge and experience in implementing and managing cybersecurity controls, monitoring threats, and ensuring compliance with relevant security standards and frameworks (e.g. ISO 27001, Essential Eight).
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, with practical experience in systems security, performance monitoring, backup strategies, and documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and contribute to IT infrastructure projects, working collaboratively with internal teams and external vendors.
