Communications Officer
- Fixed Term (14 August 2026) / Full Time
- Monday to Friday, 72.5 hours per fortnight, 9 day fortnight
- Pro Rata amount of $93,453 – 99,405 per annum (LGIA Stream A Level 4) + Superannuation
- Location – Rockhampton

Are you a skilled communicator with a passion for storytelling, a flair for media and marketing, and an eye for graphic design that brings ideas to life?
Take the Lead as a Communications Officer, where your creativity and professional communication will play a vital role in shaping Rockhampton Regional Council’s public image and elevating our organisation’s voice.
You will be an integral part of a high-performing team, providing strategic media advice and support to Councillors pertaining to their portfolios, managing daily media messaging, producing engaging graphic design content, and crafting impactful communication across all channels.
This position requires the completion of a satisfactory Criminal History Check - Police Certificate (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).
What we are looking for
- Demonstrated knowledge of the role of communications in a corporate and politically sensitive environment.
- Ability to build effective and collaborative relationships with journalists, other levels of Government and external stakeholders
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills and experience in applying these to improve standards of communication
- Strong graphic design capability, including the ability to create visually engaging content that supports communication objectives and enhances brand consistency.
- Knowledge and understanding of emerging media distribution platforms.

Application Criteria
- Experience in media, journalism, or public relations within local government or similar environments.
- Demonstrated strong written and oral communication with experience in the development and production of media releases, feature articles, digital content, marketing and promotional literature, including the creation of visual assets and graphic design materials.
- Ability to use initiative and maintain a high degree of confidentiality, discretion and judgment while maintaining a strong customer service approach.
