Your new role

 

Rockhampton Regional Council is seeking a high-performing and experienced professional to join Council in the role of Coordinator Fleet Services. This position is responsible for the strategic and operational management of Council’s fleet and workshop operations, ensuring safe, compliant and cost-effective service delivery across the organisation.

As a key member of Fleet and Facilities Leadership Team, you will provide specialist professional advice, analysis and support to senior leaders while leading the Fleet Services Unit to deliver best-practice fleet management outcomes. You will oversee fleet renewal, maintenance programs, external service contracts and budgets, while continuously driving improvement and innovation in fleet operations.

As a proactive and commercially minded leader, you will balance operational efficiency, legislative compliance and customer service expectations while fostering strong working relationships with staff, suppliers and stakeholders. Your leadership style will promote safety, accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement.

This position requires the completion of a satisfactory Criminal History Check – Police Certficate (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).

What we are looking for

  • Proven experience in managing fleet and workshop operations within a large, complex organisation, preferably within a Local Government or equivalent environment.
  • Strong leadership capability with demonstrated experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and driving high performance.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of statutory, operational and legislative requirements relating to fleet plant, equipment and workshop management.
  • Proven experience in capital renewal planning, operational maintenance programs and contract management for fleet services.
  • High level financial, budget and reporting skills with experience managing operational and capital budgets.

Application Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline) and/or a relevant trade qualification, with demonstrated leadership in fleet and workshop operations, supported by a specialist expertise in heavy vehicle or mechanical fleet maintenance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of legislative, safety, and regulatory requirements in relation to fleet, plant, heavy vehicles, and workshop operations, with a strong focus on WHS and risk management.
  • Demonstrated experience in fleet asset and financial management, including capital renewal planning maintenance program development, and budget management.
  • Demonstrated experience in contract and stakeholder management, including service contract development, performance monitoring, and optimisation of service delivery outcomes.
