Senior Safety Advisor

  • Permanent Full Time
  • Monday to Friday, 72.5 hours per fortnight, 9 day fortnight
  • $107,154 – 111,619 per annum (LGIA Stream A Level 5) + Superannuation
  • Location - Rockhampton

Your new role

Do you enjoy influencing positive safety outcomes and making a real difference in the workplace? As a Senior Safety Advisor, you'll play a key role in promoting Council's Safety First culture by providing expert advice, guidance and support across a diverse workforce.

From incident investigations and hazard management to safety training and workplace inspections, you'll manage a varied portfolio while helping strengthen safety systems, improve compliance and drive continuous improvement initiatives. If you're a proactive safety professional who enjoys collaboration, problem-solving and building safer workplaces, this could be the role for you.

This position requires the completion of a satisfactory Criminal History Check - Police Certificate (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).

What we are looking for

  • Demonstrated experience providing specialist Work Health and Safety (WHS) advice and support, while actively promoting a Safety First culture across the organisation.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to work collaboratively and effectively influence a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Capacity to contribute to and support the implementation of Council’s Health and Safety Strategy through effective project support.
  • Ability to work autonomously, exercise sound judgement and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate issues, interpret information and implement practical solutions.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, with the ability to contribute to the enhancement of Council’s Safety Management System.

Application Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience providing workplace health and safety advice and delivering safety programs, systems and initiatives within a compliance-driven environment.
  • Proven knowledge of Workplace Health and Safety legislation, hazard identification, risk management principles and incident investigation methodologies.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations, preparing detailed reports and developing practical recommendations to support continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective stakeholder relationships and communicate confidently with employees, supervisors, managers and external parties.
  • Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work with a high degree of autonomy.
