Safety Support Officer

  • Fixed Term (Until 9 July 2027) Full Time
  • Monday to Friday, 72.5 hours per fortnight, 9 day fortnight
  • Pro rata $90,931, $94,787 per annum (LGIA Stream A Level 3) + Superannuation
  • Location – Rockhampton

Workforce and Governance is seeking a proactive Safety Support Officer to join the Safety, Training and Wellbeing team. In this dynamic role, you'll provide essential administrative and system support that helps keep Council's safety processes running smoothly and effectively.

You'll be the key point of contact for Council's Riskware system, supporting incident and hazard reporting, maintaining safety records and documentation, assisting with training resources and contributing to a range of safety initiatives and projects. From compliance reporting to supporting events such as Safe Work Month and R U OK? Day, you'll play an important role in promoting a positive safety culture across the organisation.

This position requires the completion of a satisfactory Criminal History Check - Police Certificate (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).

What we are looking for

  • Strong administrative skills with the ability to maintain accurate records and manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry, reporting and documentation management.
  • Proven ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience using business systems and Microsoft Office Suite, with the ability to quickly learn new software applications.
  • Experience in safety administration, incident management systems or safety management software is highly desirable.

Application Criteria

  • Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety and/or experience in a safety administration, systems or support role, with a sound understanding of workplace health and safety practices.
  • Strong communication, customer service and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience maintaining records, preparing reports and supporting business systems, with strong attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement.
