Sportsgrounds Maintenance Team Leader 

  • Permanent / Full Time
  • Monday to Friday, 76 hours per fortnight, 9 day fortnight
  • $85,343 per annum (LGIA Stream B Level 6 + Site Allowance + Leading Hand Allowance 2) + Superannuation

Are you an experienced sports turf professional with a passion for leading teams and maintaining high-quality sporting facilities?

Rockhampton Regional Council is seeking a motivated Sportsgrounds Maintenance Team Leader to join our Parks Operations team. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for coordinating and delivering sports turf and horticultural maintenance activities across Council's sporting facilities, ensuring safe, high-quality playing surfaces for our community. 

As the Sportsgrounds Maintenance Team Leader, you will lead and supervise work crews, coordinate maintenance programs across multiple sites, oversee irrigation and turf management activities, and support sportsground improvement projects. Working closely with the Supervisor Sports and Irrigation, you will play a key role in ensuring the effective use of resources while driving safety, productivity and service excellence within the team. 

This position requires the completion of a satisfactory Criminal History Check (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).

  • An experienced leader with demonstrated skills in sports turf and horticultural maintenance, team supervision and operational planning. 
  • Someone with strong knowledge of sportsground preparation, turf management, irrigation systems, soil health and maintenance programs.
  • A proactive individual who can coordinate resources, monitor performance and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
  • A safety-focused professional with experience managing risks, implementing safe work practices and leading teams in an outdoor operational environment.

Application Criteria

  • Certificate III in Sports Turf Management (or related discipline) and/or substantial experience in sports turf maintenance and irrigation.
  • Experience leading and coordinating teams to deliver safe, efficient and high-quality sportsground maintenance services.
  • Strong knowledge of sports turf management, including irrigation, fertilising, turf renovation, drainage and sportsground presentation.
  • Experience operating specialised turf equipment and applying sound turf and soil management practices to maintain high-quality playing surfaces
