Your new role
We're looking for a plumber, not an inspector.
Put your plumbing experience to work in a different way.
We’re not expecting you to have worked as an inspector before. We’re looking for an experienced plumber with solid trade knowledge, good judgement and a willingness to learn. You know what good plumbing work looks like and you’re good with people. The rest can be taught.
Moving off the tools is a big career change, so we’ll provide the training, mentoring and support to help you make the transition. You won’t be expected to know everything on day one. You'll work alongside a team that understands the transition from hands-on plumbing work into a role like this.
You’ll inspect plumbing and drainage work, review applications and plans, investigate customer requests and provide technical advice to plumbers, builders, contractors and the community.
From residential drainage inspections to complex commercial projects, you’ll work across the Rockhampton Region, with plenty of variety from one day to the next.
This position requires the completion of a satisfactory Criminal History Check - Police Certificate (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).
What we’re looking for
- Trade Experience: You'll need a current Queensland Plumber and Drainer's Licence, White Card and the ability to interpret and apply plumbing legislation, codes and standards.
- People skills: Someone who communicates clearly, builds relationships and handles difficult conversations professionally.
- Good judgement: The ability to identify issues, solve problems and work towards compliant outcomes.
- Willingness to learn: Someone who’s open to feedback, continuous learning and developing their skills.
What you'll get in return
- Monday to Friday work, with no weekend work or nights away from home.
- A 9-day fortnight, giving you an RDO every second week.
- The opportunity to step away from the tools while staying connected to the plumbing industry.
- Less time spent in the trenches, roof spaces and summer heat.
- A Council vehicle for work-related travel.
- Training, mentoring and ongoing support to help you successfully transition into the role.
- A supportive team that enjoys what they do and genuinely looks after each other.
- 12% employer superannuation contribution, plus the option to salary sacrifice up to an additional 6%.
- 17.5% annual leave loading.
- Wages paid fortnightly.
- The stability and security of working for one of the region's largest employers.
- Employee Assistance Program.
- Fitness Passport, active social clubs and corporate membership discounts.
- Payroll deductions and salary sacrifice options.
What happens after two years?
As the Rockhampton Region continues to grow, so does the need for skilled plumbing and drainage professionals. While we can't make any guarantees, there may be opportunities beyond the initial term for the right person, subject to Council's operational needs.
What you need to do next
We’ve kept the application process simple. Rather than traditional selection criteria, we’d like you to answer three questions that help us understand your experience and what interests you about the role.
Please use Council’s cover letter template and clearly label each question in your cover letter.
To apply for this opportunity, please submit:
- Your current resume.
- A 1-2 page cover letter answering the questions in the ‘Application criteria’ section.
